Do You Practice Surya Namaskar?

Arrival of Summer Solstice June 2017 Summer Solstice Summer Solstice is a time of year to honor the bright burning star called the Sun. It is also a time to remember that we, like the sun, have the responsibility to shine brightly. This year, the summer solstice falls on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. The earth will tilt on its axis and absorb the most sunlight. At the summer solstice, we will experience the longest day of the year. We are invited into summer with its bright shining sun, warm days and energetic times. We invite heat into our bodies and our minds, opening up to creativity and manifestation. We experience activity and newness. We celebrate the sun and the sun reminds us to shine Surya Namaskar, or sun salutation, is a beautiful practice during the summer solstice. Sun salutations are a moving meditation honoring the light of the sun; for without the sun, life would not exist. Consider practicing sun salutations in the morning before you start your day to warm the body, calm the mind, and honor the sun. We love you, The URU Yoga Crew Like traditional bingo, there will be a card with 25 squares. But on our game, each square will have a yoga or community related task to complete. URU in May

Balance & Align May 2017 Balance & Align In Yogic philosophy, the universe is created from a fundamental substance, Prakriti or Shakti. From Shakti, the 3 gunas, emerge forming the essential aspects of all of nature that underlie all matter, life and mind. The 3 Gunas are qualities, threads or primal tendencies. Rajas-energy, activity, turbulence, passion, change, motion Tamas-inertia, dullness, heavy, darkness, sleepiness Sattva-balance, harmony, clarity, intelligence, virtue, rhythm We are constantly balancing these energies to find a sattvic way of living. This month, notice ways to balance your life and align with your Self. Slow down, nurture, and take care of yourself when you are feeling overly extended or full. Take deep breaths and know that saying “no” is often kind and true and will create balance. Challenge yourself, move your body, and engage your mind when you are feeling sluggish or low in energy. Notice if being tired has become a habit and allow yourself to align with more energy. Most importantly, allow yourself to come into balance and align with your truest, deepest Self. When you align with the flow of your deepest Self, support shows up where needed. Please know that you are loved, beautiful, valued and important. In Sanskrit, the root word of yoga, yuj, means “to yoke” or “to unite”.

Yoga is union.

Kula, in Sanskrit, means community, clan or tribe. Our yoga kula is sacred because we gather together with shared intention and purpose to practice the teachings of yoga through rightful action.

URU means broad, spacious, and abundant.

For URU, Kula and Yoga unite together with the yoga community as a whole. We truly believe that the yoga community is an amazing network of support, balance and connection.

Yoga is Union. Yoga is Presence. Yoga is Community. Yoga is Love. Yoga is Inclusion. Yoga is Connection. Yoga is Compassion. Yoga is Kula.                         Yoga is Rightful Action.

Bikram Pensacola closes it’s beautiful location today, March 31st.

Nicole from Bikram Yoga Pensacola is loved by so many. All I ever hear is how kind she is and what a great teacher she is to the students of Bikram Yoga Pensacola. Nicole carried a token with the words below while in teacher training….

“Change is a door that can only be opened from the inside.”

URU and Nicole Trboyevich are partnering to bring Bikram Method classes at all 4 URU locations for the month of April. Bikram students may fulfill their current packages at URU in Bikram Method classes or any other URU yoga classes and URU students get the opportunity to study Bikram with Nicole.

During the month of April, please welcome Nicole and her students to the studios. Please check the schedule for Bikram Method classes at each studio.

We love you, our Kula,

Law of Attraction

Energy Flows where Attention Goes

We manifest our thoughts by putting energy into them. When we shift our thoughts to what we DO want, we send energy into our lives creating positive outcomes. Simply put, we attract into our lives what we put energy and intention into.

By sitting in stillness, we are able to listen to the whisper of our Self and our deepest knowing. In that knowing, we set our clear intention and put energy into creating the lives we are meant to live. We have the power to create the life of our dreams.

“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it;
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”-John Anster

Kirtan
Every Thursday in March
7-9pm
URU Downtown

As intolerance of diversity seems to be gaining popularity in our diverse society, we need all the tools we can get to overcome fear, anxiety and feelings of isolation.

Moving further into our yoga practice and interest in the symbolism of various philosophical systems, we discovered that kirtan is a practice which puts shared musical mantra at the foundation of the musical experience.

All are welcome. Pay what you can. We look forward to sharing some cathartic, moving and potentially transformational experiences together as our community continues to discover and embrace this practice. —Rivka & Mike iLL

Create Your
Vision Board
Saturday, March 11
1-3pm
URU Gulf Breeze

The law of attraction simply states that we attract into our lives whatever we set our focus on.

Bring into your life new focus. Set an intention and create your vision into a piece of art to display and continually remind you of what you want in your life. Just the act of setting an intention and creating a vision board puts in motion actions that manifest your desires. And its fun!

Vision boarding is a powerful tool to set goals and intentions for yourself while also providing a piece of artwork to look at daily as you watch the vision come to life.

Bring any magazines you would like to use. We will have plenty of extra magazines and art supplies. If you have any special supplies you would like to use, please bring those as well.

Reshaping Life Perspective Through
Yoga
Sunday, March 12

Gandhi said that our beliefs affect our thoughts, our thoughts affect our words, our words affect our actions, and our actions write our destiny. By creating the union of mind, breath, and body, we will create intentions that are in alignment with our purpose, and plant those seeds of change in fertile soil. We’ll also discuss practices to continue to tend our garden as we go forward, making sure we’re caring for those beliefs that yield good fruit and creating the presence to spot weeds before they take over.

URU in November: Opening the Heart to Gratitude

Gratitude
November 2015
Dear WordPress,
Giving thanks to those who help and support us is wonderful. Gratitude also goes far beyond that. Expanding our consciousness and awareness to include all living beings, opening our hearts to everything that is, is true gratitude.
Offering love and appreciation for those relationships and situations that challenge us opens up a love for Self, knowing that our opportunities for growth come from all directions. When we can expand our love of Self, we can then offer love to others and from that love, gratitude naturally blooms.
This month practice opening your heart to all living beings, wishing happiness and freedom to all.
Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu
With love and gratitude,

Denise Amick began her yoga practice in the basement of a church in the mid 1980s in search of healing from the chronic symptoms of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Her passion has led her to practice and teach yoga as a path to physical and mental wellbeing. In 2001, at the urging of her yoga teacher, Linda Sudevi Kramer, Denise studied and became a certified Integral yoga teacher at the Satchidananda Ashram. She was given the spiritual name of Dayamata which means compassionate mother. She focuses on safe alignment and strives to take the student to their personal edge while still allowing them to have their own experience of the pose. She invites her students to “come home to themselves”. When she’s not studying to complete her graduate degree in Clinical Counseling and Psychology or teaching yoga Denise is hiking, gardening, cooking for her husband, children and grandchildren or playing with her Boxer, Nora.

Upcoming Events at URU Yoga & Beyond

Share & Heal Group

Every Thursday, beginning October 22
9-10:30am
Hurt and anger can linger and affect us in ways that prevent us from moving forward. We withdraw to protect ourselves, but this only leads to further loneliness, fear, and isolation.  Challenge yourself to engage with others in a safe place while you learn to empower your inner voice, heal from past hurts, and improve your quality of life. Group limited to eight members*.
*Due to the intimate nature of this group, pre-registration is required.
Please email Melissa directly at feelbetter@self-haven.com or call 850-733-8908.

Cost: $25/group (minimum of four sessions)
