Sustainability as a teacher comes from understanding the business so that you can continue teaching and practicing in a way that supports your life. In this workshop, we will examine all of the aspects of the business of being a yoga teacher including insurance, creating classes, presence, working in a studio, taxes, software, marketing, and other ways to create income as a teacher. URU in December

Give yourself the gift of spaciousness December 2017 Aparigraha, Non-Attachment This time of year I am easily reminded of the fifth yama, Aparigraha, which translates to non-attachment or non-grasping. I have an antique dresser my parents bought for me as a baby. It was in my room all through my childhood and teenage years. When I went to college, it stayed at my mother’s home. After I got married, I moved the dresser into our first home. When we decided to have children, my husband refinished the dresser and gave it new life in my daughter’s bedroom. We moved houses and my daughter grew. After the 2014 flood, the dresser sat in knee-high waters and we moved once again. We kept the dresser, dried it out and gave it a new home in our storage room. The dresser now holds wrapping paper and bows. It takes up space, the wood is chipped and the drawer is creaky. I no longer have any need for this dresser, yet I have struggled letting it go for years. Last weekend, we were pulling out the holiday decorations. The dresser stood there, taking up space, and reminded me that I have needed to let it go for years. It provides an obstacle to get to other things. My husband asked tentatively if we could get rid of it, knowing my response in the past was to hold onto the dresser despite its lack of use. In a moment, I said, “yes, I don’t need it anymore.” It was no longer the place I put on teenage makeup and it no longer held my daughter’s clothes. Somehow I had reached the point of being able to let this thing go that was no more than old, broken, wood and peeling paint. When I think about letting things go, I realize there is often fear around it. In yogic philosophy, this fear is based on ignorance, or avidya. Maybe we have fear that the memory or a part of mySelf will leave with the item or the feeling. Maybe, guilt around moving on from something that only serves pain now. Whatever it is that we hold onto, whether tangible items, relationships, old memories both happy and sad, we are blocking space where growth and new opportunities may take place. By releasing attachments from the things that do not serve us in a positive way, we create space in our minds and our bodies to open up to joy. And maybe free up some space in your storage room so you no longer have to climb over that old dresser to reach your wreath. The memories will stay with me even as the dresser does not. I will remember being a child, a young adult, a newlywed, a new mother, an adult weathering the harshest storm and flood, and a human living this life to the utmost joy possible. I will also experience new found space and freedom by letting go of this attachment. ~Kerry Whiteley Freedom and space are gifts we offer ourselves by practicing Aparigraha. Wishing you all gratitude, spaciousness, and the realization of wholeness.. We have everything we need and more. Namaste We love you, The URU Yoga Crew **December Special** 3 Months $175 Sweet Mystery: The Sound of Healing with Dr. DeMaria TONIGHT! Friday, December 1 6:30-9:00pm URU by the airport In many native languages the translation for Creator or God is Great Mystery – a phrase that has spoken deeply to me over the years. The rational, strategic, analytic mind wants to split the world into duality, which severs the innate wholeness of life, which is at its core paradoxical. To honor the mystery, we must learn to be exquisitely present to the here and now of each moment, and embrace the currents and cross-currents of being and becoming – as we learn to traverse the rapids of modern life. We will drop in and explore the mystery through sound healing, movement, laughter, and explorations of deep inquiry into the mysteries of life and death, day and night, male and female, sound and silence, movement and stillness. URU in November

Purnam~Whole, Complete, Abundant November 2017 Purnam~Wholeness This Sunday, Daylight Savings Time ends. Darkness prevails over light as the earth begins to rest for the fall and winter season. In this time, plant’s roots nestle deep into the soil to rejuvenate for spring. Animals prepare for the cold and go deep inside their shelters. The darkness is the juicy soil and the womb. In the darkness, true nurturing and growth begin. Just as the earth depends on the dark as much as the light, we too honor our light and our dark. There are shadow places in each of us and to deny them is to deny that what makes us complete. The fall and winter months are the perfect time to turn our gaze (drishti) inward, observing all of the parts and pieces that make us complete, whole and perfect. In our darkness, we acknowledge all that makes us human and part of the physical realm while our light reminds us of our connection to the Source. Om purnam-ada Purnam-idam Purnat purnam-udachyate Purnasya purnamadaya Purnam-evavashishyate Om That is the whole. This is the whole. From wholeness emerges wholeness. Wholeness coming from wholeness, wholeness still remains. Embrace all that you are, know that you are complete, whole, perfect, abundant, and loved. Teacher Training & Weekend Retreat this month!

Life changing opportunities await you… September 2017 The Yoga Teacher Training Experience… “Teacher training was a transformative, deepening, and a therapeutic process for me. It gave me new skills and experiences to both work on personal issues and spiritual growth and also to use professionally with my clients. The training provided an opportunity to be with authentic and soulful people. We learned and grew from our experiences together.” ~Lindsey Windrow “Teacher training was the single most transformative process of personal development I have experienced in my life. If you’re looking for connection and a place to do some deep work, this training is it.” ~Heather Moller “Teacher training helped me to accomplish a dream ….I am very excited that I actually teach.” ~Donna Anderson “I stepped into teacher training with the intention of deepening my understanding of yoga. What I quickly and inexorably realized was that yoga is deepening the understanding of and connection with the Self. I am so thankful to have taken the first steps down this lifetime path in such a supportive community.” ~Rachel Botts Teacher training begins Friday, September 8! See more info below… URU Yoga Weekend Retreat Experience…. “Letting go of what I wanted people to think of me. I was the raw me. I met, became close and will always have a bond with a lot of other yogis from the retreat. Coldwater Gardens, a piece of heaven and the staff are truly, so real. Jennifer creates amazing meals. It was like the schedule was created for each individual. The personalities and knowledge that Beckie, Kerry and Diane have, touched everyone in a way we needed.” ~Jackie Morrow “My experience at last year’s Fall URU retreat was magical. I didn’t really know anyone going in but while there I felt like I belonged. The URU yoga teachers planned beautiful indoor and outdoor yoga classes. They also created experiences that helped me to step outside myself and build deeper connections to other human beings. Not to mention the food left me feeling refreshed, healthy, and alive. I would highly recommend going to this retreat if you want to “get away” from it all and find a deeper connection to yourself and others.” ~Rebecca Austin 2 URU Retreats coming up!
