On Sunday April 9th at 2 pm Prana Devi is teaching a flow yoga class at URU Yoga airport location to benefit Jessica Finlay. This 90 minute yoga class will reveal your inner radiance so you shine with that special yoga glow. Come enjoy your good health and support a local woman’s journey back to wellness! 

Please join us in efforts to raise money for one of our dearest friends and Trend’s Salon team members, Jessica Finlay, who has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Jessica is an esthetician and salon coordinator at Trends Salon & Spa in Pensacola, Florida. She is married to Aaron Finlay and has three beautiful fur babies; cat-Dennis, dog-Franklin and Rosie Kisses. Jessica has encountered an obstacle that far too many people have had to ‘shoulder’; a cancer diagnosis. 

The financial burden of a cancer diagnosis can be just as hard to swallow as the actual illness. We want to help in the best way possible. If you would like to donate to Jessica and her family, please come to this wonderful healing class! I know they are very appreciative and thank everyone for their love and support by donation, prayer, good vibe or kind words!

What is Yoga?

In Sanskrit, the root word of yoga, yuj, means “to yoke” or “to unite”.

 

Yoga is union.

Kula, in Sanskrit, means community, clan or tribe. Our yoga kula is sacred because we gather together with shared intention and purpose to practice the teachings of yoga through rightful action.

URU means broad, spacious, and abundant.

For URU, Kula and Yoga unite together with the yoga community as a whole. We truly believe that the yoga community is an amazing network of support, balance and connection.

Yoga is Union. Yoga is Presence. Yoga is Community. Yoga is Love. Yoga is Inclusion. Yoga is Connection. Yoga is Compassion. Yoga is Kula.                         Yoga is Rightful Action. 

Bikram Pensacola closes it’s beautiful location today, March 31st.

Nicole from Bikram Yoga Pensacola is loved by so many. All I ever hear is how kind she is and what a great teacher she is to the students of Bikram Yoga Pensacola. Nicole carried a token with the words below while in teacher training….

Journey Through
the 5 Koshas

Join Bhagya Shree on a journey through the layers of the body. The Koshas are an ancient form of yogic anatomy. The koshas are likened to the layers of an onion or Russian dolls that fit inside of each other. In this class, you will have the opportunity to connect with each of the 5 Koshas of your body, mind, and spirit.

The class will begin with cleansing breath work, chanting and sun salutations. Then we will move into the layers of the body with a sequence of poses that will be repeated 3 times which focuses on the first 3 layers or sheaths. Next we will move through a powerful cleansing kriya which will prepare us for a wonderful savasana, seated pranayama, and a beautiful mediation whilst we focus on the final 2 Kosha layers of intuition and bliss.

Yoga Diet Workshop

Join Bhagya Shree for an exploration of Ayurveda, Yogic philosophy, whole food diet, and conscious eating. During this workshop, we will discuss the main principles of Ayurveda and how it relates to a yogic lifestyle, Yogic philosophy and how our diet relates to a yogic lifestyle, basic digestion, some types of whole food diets for certain conditions, a food mantra, and finish with a tasty yogic meal. You will also be provided a manual so you can be fully present and absorb the whole experience.
The meal will consist of:
Aloo Gobi: a cauliflower and potato curry.
Chana Masala: a chickpea/garbanzo bean curry in a dairy free coconut creamy tomato sauce.
Red lentil and Carrot Dahl: a soupy stew of red lentils, gentle spices, and diced carrots.
Brown basmati rice.
Cucumber raita: a cool cucumber salad in a coconut dairy free creamy herb dressing.
A mixed greens and raw vegetable salad.
Mixed nut Ladoo: a mix of coconut and nuts rolled into balls; a very satisfying desert.
A Journey Through the Chakras

This is a truly unique and transformational experience that can help us to move towards our true inner nature.Classical Akhanda Kundalini which like other Yoga classes, focuses on purification of the subtle body or the energetic layers of the body. Classical kundalini uses tantric philosophies and practices. These tantric practices focus on achieving pranic or energetic transformation through the body. Classical Kundalini uses repeated movements of the spine, dynamic active breathing or pranayama, mantra chanting, chakra visualizations, and asana. These features are utilized to clear the energetic pathways or nadis and their junction points or chakras. These practices promote clarity, vitality, and peace.

Finding Our Path:
A Men’s Workshop

Men are experiencing a change in their role in society and many men never felt comfortable within the old system. During this workshop we will use discussion, activities, and yoga to work towards discovering each man’s individual path towards a fufilling life and how they can show up for others. This workshop will be for mature teenagers and older who are looking to develop a better idea of who they truly are and how they can integrate that into their day to day lives. Touch will be offered in this workshop but not required.
Restorative Yoga Training

Join Kathea and David Bryan in a Restorative Yoga training, you will receive a copy of their restorative booklet containing 42 postures. We will practice coming into the postures and propping for the postures in addition to getting plenty of practice in.
This training is for yoga teachers looking to add Restorative into their offerings as well as anyone that would like to develop a Restorative practice.
The cost is $100 with a $20 discount if signed up and paid by April 17th.

This workshop is for anyone, anyone who is looking to relieve tight sore, achy muscles. If you are a yoga student who wants to foam roll before or after class, this workshop is for you. If you have a foam roller at home and want to learn how to do it on your own, this workshop is for you. If you want to simply enjoy 2 hours of being lead through foam rolling and yoga, this workshop is for you.

Moving further into our yoga practice and interest in the symbolism of various philosophical systems, we discovered that kirtan is a practice which puts shared musical mantra at the foundation of the musical experience.

Bring into your life new focus. Set an intention and create your vision into a piece of art to display and continually remind you of what you want in your life. Just the act of setting an intention and creating a vision board puts in motion actions that manifest your desires. And its fun!

Vision boarding is a powerful tool to set goals and intentions for yourself while also providing a piece of artwork to look at daily as you watch the vision come to life. 

Bring any magazines you would like to use. We will have plenty of extra magazines and art supplies. If you have any special supplies you would like to use, please bring those as well.

Partner yoga with Dinner Night Out

Partner Yoga is a great way to enhance your yoga practice and your relationships. We will have a 1 hour Partner Yoga Session followed by dinner at one of our Downtown Restaurants. 

The yoga class is open to anyone: beginners or advanced practitioners. You do not need to bring a partner. We will interact with the class as a whole and spend some time one on one. 

After class, we will venture to the restaurant. The restaurant will have great specials for our class and seating blocked off to accomodate our group. The restaurant this month is End of the Line Cafe!
The entire menu will be available to you. We are trying to get the best specials possible to offer our students a well deserved great time and yummy food. 

Investment: Yoga Class- $12 per person, or $20 for 2 people, Dinner will be separate, but will have specials for our group.

Yogic Nutrition

Explore yogic philosophy relating to diet and lifestyle. In the first half we will discuss the Yamas and Niyamas, the Koshas, the four traditional paths of yoga, the three Gunas, the five Kleshas, connecting to the five elements, and the Doshas and basic Ayervedic principles. After a short break with some light refreshments we will then delve into nutritional science and Ayervedic treatments. We will focus on mood enhancing and anti-inflammatory diets using a natural plant based diet. We will discus the environmental impact of diet and lifestyle and conscious mindful living. To finish we will learn a food mantra and work towards blending gratitude towards our diet.

Melanie (RYT200) has studied nutrition for 4 years. She had gained a diploma in Sport nutrition and is Certified in Plant Based Nutrition from Cornell University. Melanie is now in her final year of studying Holistic Nutrition through The Canadian Institute of Natural Nutrition, an accredited school which will credit her as a board certified Holistic Nutritionist by the end of 2016.

Fundamentals is a workshop that assists each student in expanding their personal practice, bringing it to the next level! This workshop will focus on implementing the Five Pillars of Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga and how to increase the health and the physical performance of your yoga practice, and structurally rehabilitate your muscles.
You will learn how to land poses with safe and smooth transitions from one pose into the next. We will explore the dynamics of the meditative Ujjaii breathing.
You will learn how to increase your endurance through breathing, and create foundation and flow with your poses.Fundamentals will not only leave you feeling more confidant and grounded, it will set you up with practical tools you can use everyday on and off your mat!

Aerial Hoop: Basics with Ashlyn

Denise Amick began her yoga practice in the basement of a church in the mid 1980s in search of healing from the chronic symptoms of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Her passion has led her to practice and teach yoga as a path to physical and mental wellbeing. In 2001, at the urging of her yoga teacher, Linda Sudevi Kramer, Denise studied and became a certified Integral yoga teacher at the Satchidananda Ashram. She was given the spiritual name of Dayamata which means compassionate mother. She focuses on safe alignment and strives to take the student to their personal edge while still allowing them to have their own experience of the pose. She invites her students to “come home to themselves”. When she’s not studying to complete her graduate degree in Clinical Counseling and Psychology or teaching yoga Denise is hiking, gardening, cooking for her husband, children and grandchildren or playing with her Boxer, Nora.

Dear WordPress,
Fall has arrived! The Autumnal Equinox occurred marking the beginning of autumn. During this time, the celestial hemispheres are exactly perpendicular to the sun’s rays. There is perfect balance between light and dark.
 
For centuries, the equinox marks a time for celebration and reverence for the light and the dark. In the northern hemisphere, the days become shorter. It is a time to respect the darkness that is coming and give thanks to the light…we need both to transform. While the light gives us energy, warmth and nutrients to grow, the darkness offers us a time of reflection and contemplation; to go within and nurture ourselves; to rest.
 
In fall and winter, we harvest those qualities in us that have been growing and expanding, the qualities we want to keep and the relationships we want to continue. It is also a time to thin the garden and let go of the things that do not support the growth of the deepest part of our knowing and being. 
 
As the days grow shorter and the light begins to fade earlier, take time to go within, to nurture yourself and remove the things that hold you back from becoming your truest and most pure Self. There is no need to fear the dark. The darkness will reveal the light that is within you.  It is truly time to be who you are meant to be and shine as you are meant to shine.

Put on your cat ears, polish up that pirate buckle and sharpen the point on your witches hat! Come to class and have a great time practicing Kali Natha Yoga with Prana Devi. This is a deeply spiritual practice that really moves energy and invigorates the body. It’s the best treat you’ll get on Halloween, however candy will be also served after savasana. 

Kali Natha Yoga takes its name from Mother Kali, the all-embracing Mother who takes the pain and suffering of her children, and the Nathas who are ancient yogis from the lineage of Lord Shiva. It is this balancing of masculine and feminine that makes Kali Natha Yoga transformative. This yoga awakens the Divine feminine principle of Shakti and moves the practitioner to a deeper self-awareness.

Kali Natha Yoga is a root yoga, complete in itself, and can be used as the basis for all other yoga practices. It utilizes many of the yogic tools including mantra, mudra and pranayam and can change the breath and the quality of blood. It changes air to prana and prana to pure shakti. Every chakra is opened and stretched.
