URU Newsletter 22 April, 2014

Greetings!

It is a beautiful Spring.   Just like the baby bird jumps out of the nest, it is time to take a leap into life.

“Faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly.” -Edward Tellar
Come join us as we celebrate the creation of URU and an amazing community of people.  We are celebrating you.  You are what makes URU the beauty that it is.
We have many incredible events for you.  Try something new. Talk to someone new.  Sing and dance if you want to.   Live as if this may be your last day. Engage fully into your surroundings. You will find beauty that you did not even know existed.
We love you.

New Classes at URU

Beginning Friday, April 25th, Everything flows with the breath and Rachel is all about the vinyasa flows.

Yin Yoga with Angela Huntsinger
Tuesday, 9:30am, starting April 29th

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures or asanas that are held for longer periods of time-five minutes or longer per pose is typical.

Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues-the tendons, fascia, and ligaments-with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Yin Yoga poses are also designed to improve the flow of qi, the subtle energy said in Chinese medicine to run through the meridian pathways of the body. Improved flow of qi is hypothesized to improve organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being. Yin Yoga is not intended as a complete practice in itself, but rather as a complementary practice to balance the effects of more active forms of yoga and exercise.

Laura Jarrait Psoas Asana Workshop and Empowerment Discussion
Sunday, April 27th, 1:00-6:00pm

Join Laura Jarrait for two amazing workshops.

You can come to one or both..

Sunday 1:00-3:30 $30
Yoga as Union – Cultivating the Undivided Self, An Exploration of the Psoas Muscle

This all levels asana class will work specifically with releasing, aligning, toning and stretching the iliopsoas muscle and its colleagues. The iliopsoas muscle connects the upper and lower body and as such helps stabilize the core, assisting us in creating coherence through the whole of the body. It is considered by some to be the most important muscle in the body and chronic tension in this muscle can easily contribute to pain and dysfunction through the entire body. This 2 hour class will consist of a systematic exploration of therapeutic exercises and traditional yoga poses to release chronic tension, cultivate improved postural alignment, strengthen, and actively stretch these deep core muscles so that we can move with more integrity. We’ll extend our exploration into investigating how we can move toward more coherence or integrity through the whole of our lives. After the movement exploration, the last 15-20 minutes of class will be dedicated to a guided yoga nidra practice designed to release tension in the emotional and mental body as well as the physical body.

Sunday 4:00-6:00 $20
Empowering the Student/Teacher Relationship

Teaching yoga is one of the highest services we can be privileged to give. Students are drawn to the practice for many reasons and then stay because their life is somehow transformed. In this teacher enrichment workshop we are going to do what all yoga is aimed to do, bring the unconscious to the conscious so we can increase the potency of what we are offering students. We will use contemplation, writing, and discussion to clarify what goes on behind the scenes in class. We will look specifically at student and class expectations and needs, your expectations and needs as a teacher, and your purpose, gifts, and personality. As time permits, we will also discuss specific common situations that occur in classes. Using awareness of these things and principles of conscious communication, you will learn how to make each interaction more effective in guiding you and your students towards the beneficial connection that is yoga.

$45 for both workshops…

BIO:
Laura Jarrait, E-RYT500, is dedicated to creating a safe environment in which students are challenged to explore their edges in order to increase their body and life awareness. Her classes include philosophical and physical inquiry that are rooted in her own deep yogic education and experience. Students in Laura’s classes can expect sound alignment instruction, moments of challenge that may take a variety of forms (advanced asana, simply standing, or attending to subtle movement, to name a few), an invitation to think and feel more fully, and a bit of light-heartedness to help it all sink in more easily. Laura has been a dedicated yoga practioner for seventeen years; her main influences come from the alignment-based schools of Iyengar and Anusara yoga and Shaiva Tantra philosophy. She was certified as an Anusara teacher in March, 2009. She also helps facilitate healing and increasing awareness using the energy system of BodyTalk and spiritual coaching through the Akashic Records. She is thrilled to be able to use all of these to lead people into a deeper understanding of themselves and their world.

Wynne Paris Kirtana Americana
Thursday, May 8th, 7:00-9:00pm

Come experience Kirtan with Wynne Paris.

Groove out with sacred mantras, classical Indian instruments and the powerful voice of kirtan leader, Wynne Paris and his fellow devoted musician friends.

Wynne is a world beat artist/producer and musician who has spent the last decade devoted to an emerging genre of spiritual music: Yoga music and Kirtan. Wynne’s artistic sound is derived from 20 years of musical adventures and spiritual experiences.

Wynne spent most of his twenties playing rock guitar and singing the blues at nightclubs around Washington DC. In 1994, at the age of 30, Wynne took up yoga, dated a bellydancing astrologer, and had a series of spiritual and mystical experiences that transformed not only his musical style, but his vision of the world. One evening in 1996, Wynne was invited to jam with the Indian Saint Ammachi. The Darshan or blessings he received from Amma the “hugging saint” inspired a vision quest to California and ultimately a move to Marin county to study Indian music, shamanism and yoga.

Since this time Wynne has produced a number of albums including ‘Grooveananda’ and has played hundreds of gigs across the country, alone or accompanying other chanters, including Krishna Das, Wah, David Newman, Dave Stringer, and Bhagavan Das.

Wynne Paris is a Rock, New Age and world beat musician/producer with a special love for yoga music and kirtan, the call-and-response singing of Bhakti yoga. His live performance combines Kirtan chanting, American music (jazz, gospel music, blues and rock music), world beat rhythms and raga scales. He sings in both English and Sanskrit, and plays guitar, sarod (a 26 stringed, sitar-like instrument from India),harmonium, and percussion.
