URU in October: Equanimity for the Equinox

Equanimity for the Equinox
October 2015
Dear WordPress,
Fall has arrived! The Autumnal Equinox occurred marking the beginning of autumn. During this time, the celestial hemispheres are exactly perpendicular to the sun’s rays. There is perfect balance between light and dark.

For centuries, the equinox marks a time for celebration and reverence for the light and the dark. In the northern hemisphere, the days become shorter. It is a time to respect the darkness that is coming and give thanks to the light…we need both to transform. While the light gives us energy, warmth and nutrients to grow, the darkness offers us a time of reflection and contemplation; to go within and nurture ourselves; to rest.

In fall and winter, we harvest those qualities in us that have been growing and expanding, the qualities we want to keep and the relationships we want to continue. It is also a time to thin the garden and let go of the things that do not support the growth of the deepest part of our knowing and being.

As the days grow shorter and the light begins to fade earlier, take time to go within, to nurture yourself and remove the things that hold you back from becoming your truest and most pure Self. There is no need to fear the dark. The darkness will reveal the light that is within you.  It is truly time to be who you are meant to be and shine as you are meant to shine.

With love and gratitude,
The URU Crew

Share and Heal Group

Hurt and anger can linger and affect us in ways that prevent us from moving forward. We withdraw to protect ourselves, but this only leads to further loneliness, fear, and isolation.

Share and Heal is a closed and intimate therapy group designed for women looking for a safe place for processing, healing, sharing, and receiving support and understanding in a non-judgmental environment. Group goals include reducing depression and anxiety by improving coping, confidence, and self-soothing skills. By processing our stories, we learn to shape our experiences to suit our needs and build our strengths. Challenge yourself to engage with others in a safe place while you learn to empower your inner voice, heal from past hurts, and improve your quality of life. Group limited to eight members*.

*Due to the intimate nature of this group, pre-registration is required.

Trance through Chant,
Breath & Vocalization
with Rivka Kilmer

Sunday, October 25
2-4pm
$20
I love to chant, come celebrate my birthday with me. Let’s have a memorable, if not transformative chanting experience together. In this workshop we’ll be expanding the lung capacity through a series of breathing, light stretching and relaxation exercises. Then we will vocalize. For the chants we’ll be doing, both traditional and progressive, we’ll explore the different components: pronunciation, meaning and melody. Preparing to stamp these chants on our souls, or at least experience a transformation in our relationship with the chant.

Halloween Class
Saturday, October 31
2-3:30pm
Halloween is on a Saturday, which happens to be the very same day of the week we have Kali Natha Yoga at URU Yoga and Beyond!

Put on your cat ears, polish up that pirate buckle and sharpen the point on your witches hat! Come to class and have a great time practicing Kali Natha Yoga with Prana Devi. This is a deeply spiritual practice that really moves energy and invigorates the body. It’s the best treat you’ll get on Halloween, however candy will be also served after savasana.

Kali Natha Yoga takes its name from Mother Kali, the all-embracing Mother who takes the pain and suffering of her children, and the Nathas who are ancient yogis from the lineage of Lord Shiva. It is this balancing of masculine and feminine that makes Kali Natha Yoga transformative. This yoga awakens the Divine feminine principle of Shakti and moves the practitioner to a deeper self-awareness.

Kali Natha Yoga is a root yoga, complete in itself, and can be used as the basis for all other yoga practices. It utilizes many of the yogic tools including mantra, mudra and pranayam and can change the breath and the quality of blood. It changes air to prana and prana to pure shakti. Every chakra is opened and stretched. The essence of Kali Natha Yoga interweaves together the mind, body and soul.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

I was saved by yoga in 2013. After years of being a “fitness snob”, I found yoga when I needed it most. My yoga practice showed me that physical exercise was not the only thing I needed to take care of my body and mind, and I now practice integrating the Eight Limbs of Yoga into my life and my fitness regiment. Because of yoga and URU, my life is on a new and bright path that includes chants, inversions, acrobatic yoga, and connections that make my universe beautiful! Come play!
and all of our new teachers!
