Opening the Heart
February 2015
Greetings!

We love with our hearts, bodies and souls yet so often we hold back from giving all of our love to another or feeling true love for ourselves. We protect ourselves from heartbreak and shield our hearts from pain. But inside these boundaries, we lose so much of our self. When we open our hearts to vulnerability and expose our pains to the world, we find more love than we could ever imagine, for ourselves and those around us.
This month, open your heart to the possibility of the biggest love you can feel, love for your Self and everything around. There is no greater gift you can give or receive.

Inversions with Confidence & Ease with Naomi & Nathan

Sunday,  February 22
2-4pm

Set the foundation for happier upside down experiences beginning in this workshop, by learning the tools to confidently establish an empowering inversions practice. This afternoon of upside-down adventures, intends to peel back the layers of doubt and fear that have prevented you from attempting inversions like handstand, forearm stand and headstand in the past.

As you unpack the baggage that weighs you down in your inversion attempts, you will feel physically and energetically lighter. If we can release the heavy burden of self-doubt through clear, effective preparatory poses as well as dissolve the heavier burden of fear through strength building poses, you have a greater chance to feel steadier when you go upside down. Discover fun where fear once lived and enjoy a new lightness of being that transforms your present and future experiences of going upside down!

What exactly are
Heart Openers?
We often store emotions deep within. Heart openers are asanas that expand the chest such as in camel pose or wheel pose. By creating space in the chest, we can tap into those hidden emotions and energies. When we do this, we may feel an emotional release that helps us both on and off the mat to feel more love toward ourselves and others.
URU has a wide range of yoga classes for all ages and comfort levels.  Please notice our new kid’s classes as well.

Parents can practice yoga while children take their own class.
From early morning to evening, there is a class for You!

Setting Your Intention
January 2015
Greetings!

It is 2015! We are in a new time and on new soil where we can grow and harness our energy by the use of vision, intention and action.  Intentions can only be fulfilled with actions.  Actions must have a commitment behind them.  Committing to our intentions and putting our actions in place are needed to make our visions come true.

What is your deepest desire or your truest vision?  What will it take for you to live life as your authentic self?  Is there a word, a thought or an idea that will help you find that perfect balance from which you can open your heart and expand your life? Or is it silence and stillness that will call you into your being?  Is it movement, flowing or dance that will help you bloom into full growth?

In the winter, seeds are in the dark being nurtured by the soil. As the days get longer what seeds will you plant and how will you nourish and cultivate them successfully?

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”
Gandhi
Have you ever wondered about the URU logo and all those intersecting circles? It represents “The Flower of Life” where the Vesica Piscis forms its center. In sacred geometry this center represents us all,  the One,  the Beginning from which we all begin. It is our perfect balance. From this original energy, we grow and expand, never contract; we cannot go back, we only go forward.  The Vesica Pisces is the the threshold where you have left what is behind and you have full faith in what you are stepping into.  The Vesica Pisces where the circles merge creates a space of infinite possibilities
“Faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly.”

Imagine the Vesica Piscis, that One-ness, from which we all originate. That perfect equilibrium of all life’s energy at the center of life is the place where we can begin. It is the place where we decide how we will grow, where we set our intention.

If yoga is part of your journey this year, please know we are here to assist you in any way that you need.

With love and gratitude,

Rebecca Sathre, Chris Amador & the URU Crew

‘Path of the Seed’

Keep moving toward the sun;
focus high, above the blinding soil,
clear away all that keeps
a seed from seeing its Light.

Grace has placed its rays
on the path of which you grow;
follow this amber jewel
to the place beyond the clouds.

Rain may pound your leaves
and push them down
around your stem,
but these are the messengers
from the One. Receive them,
learn from them, let them
nourish your roots.

Just keep moving toward the sun,
until it pulls each petal back,
one by one, revealing
your ripened bud-
release your Self completely
into every, single, fleeting, moment
that your essence longs
to stretch itself freely
across the blue sky.

Amber began her yoga journey at Abhaya Yoga Center in 2008 where she was surprised to find peace for her body, peace for her mind and peace for her soul and wanted to share that peace with everyone around her. In 2011 that opportunity presented itself in the form of teacher training at Abhaya Yoga Center so Amber jumped in full body, mind and soul. She is forever greatful to Nancy LaNasa, Beckie Sathre, and Tammy Virchow Urbansky for sharing their love and knowledge of yoga with her. Reaching Your Pinnacle
December 2014
Greetings!

The end of the year is upon us. Did you set a resolution, a goal, or an intention at the start? Or did you allow the year to unfold on its own. No matter how the year began, there are endless possibilities to it’s conclusion.
Often in yoga, we move toward a pinnacle pose; the pose where all postures in vinyasa lead. We prepare our body and mind to reach this peak in class; it is the goal whether it is achieved or not.
As 2014 comes to a close, consider reaching your pinnacle. Prepare your movements, your words and actions, so that you may reach or get as close to your peak as you can. It is never too late to make your resolution, your goal or your intention a reality.

Pranayama Workshop
with Susandhya Andrea

DATE: Sunday,November 9
TIME: 9am-12pm
LOCATION: URU Yoga & Beyond
2400 Executive Plaza Drive

Breath is life.

Throughout the day we take more than 20,000 breaths often without giving it much consideration. Ancient Yogis discovered that through conscious connection with the breath they could not only improve their practice but their overall well-being. Their wisdom and experimentation gave birth to the Indian science of Pranayama, which includes a wealth of techniques dedicated to offer practitioners physical, physiological, psycho-emotional and spiritual benefits.

Join Susandhya for an in-depth exploration of the breath as a vehicle for transformation and take home the insight and tools to establish a regular Pranayama practice.

Living Soulfully
November 2014
Greetings!

Life is gift. The life force within us all, prana, allows us to live in the world and also reflect within so that we may live to our full potential.
With a grateful heart, we can share that life force with those around us by being compassionate, honest, fair, and balanced. While we share with others, we can honor ourselves and be thankful for our breath and the daily work we do.

URU will offer gratitude classes Thanksgiving Day and cleansing classes the day after.

Take time this month to honor yourself and those around you.

Join Susandhya for an in-depth exploration of the breath as a vehicle for transformation and take home the insight and tools to establish a regular Pranayama practice. All levels welcome!

Chris Amador began his yoga practice in 2009 as a way to increase physical fitness. Along the way, he realized enumerable benefits of a dedicated yoga practice. He became physically stronger, emotionally grounded, more self-aware and had a lot of fun. He became a yoga instructor in 2012, completing the 200-hour yoga teaching training at Abhaya Yoga Center with Nancy LaNasa and Beckie Sathre. In Chris’s classes, you can expect to receive caring, compassionate guidance that seeks to strengthen the body, mind and spirit. His style promotes playfulness, self-acceptance and inner peace.

DATE: Sunday,October 19
TIME: 6-8pm
LOCATION: URU Yoga & Beyond
2400 Executive Plaza Drive

Pure Beauty and Bliss will be joining us at URU

“Dive into Ocean of Grace and ride a tidal wave of devotion to the mystical land where Radha and Krishna cavorted. Prema Hara’s Kamaniya and Keshavacharya transport you there with their sublimely balanced vocals – his strong and deep, hers fluid and lilting. From the rousingly ecstatic Radha – Queen of Vrindavan to the urban-edged Bhakti Shakti Dub to the epic, profoundly moving title track featuring Jai Uttal and an all-star cast, Ocean of Grace will stir and serenade your soul into a state of divine bliss as deep and wide as the Pacific. Sure to be remembered as a breakthrough album for this duo.”

Living with True Ethics
October 2014
Greetings!

                                   ‘We cannot walk alone.
                                        And as we walk
We must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.
                                    We cannot turn back.’
Martin Luther KIng

A small thought can become a dream, a dream can become a vision, a vision can become a creation, and a creation can become a beautiful reality.  URU is our beautiful reality.

We celebrated our one year anniversary last month.  Thank you for being a part of it. In the last year we have healed, learned, taught, cried, laughed, danced, sang and so much more in this beautiful space. We have experienced many amazing yoga classes, workshops, musical events, friendships and so much more.. We have hung upside down. We have danced in glow in the dark. Children have played. We have connected with each other. We have formed a beautiful community.

“Let your practice be a celebration of life”
~ Seido lee deBarro

Thank you for an amazing year!

We give gratitude to all of the students and teachers knowing that we are all both. . We give gratitude to our amazing landlord. We give gratitude for amazing partnership. We give gratitude to everyone who has helped us create this community by stepping through the door and sharing your presence. We give gratitude for the interconnectedness of all beings.

Guiding our lives with love, honesty, integrity, containment and contentment we can achieve great things. As we walk together into our second year, we hope you continue to dream with us so that we all may turn our visions into beautiful realities.

With love and gratitude,

Rebecca Sathre, Chris Amador & the URU Crew

In order to find out how to reveal our innermost Being, the sages explored the various sheaths of existence, starting from body and progressing through mind and intelligence, and ultimately to the soul. The yogic journey guides us from our periphery, the body, to the center of our being, the soul. The aim is to integrate the various layers so that the inner divinity shines out as through clear glass.”
